On a picture-perfect July 4th morning, hundreds of our community filled Waterway Drive to celebrate our nation’s independence. Led by the intrepid Jeannie Meyer and her spirited LB marching band, a stream of flag-waving marchers, a firetruck, parade cars, and of course the LB kazoo band made their way from Beach 5 to Beach 3 as part of the annual Woman’s Club July 4th Parade, a LBWC-sponsored tradition since the mid-1960s.
At Beach 3, the celebration continued with refreshing lemonade and COOKIES! Marchers, parade watchers, and dozens of helpers enjoyed post-parade refreshments while the band played on! The specially composed rendition of a Ukrainian folk march added to the spirit. It was a great turn-out, and a great way to celebrate our wonderful community.
THANKS a million to Jeannie, refreshments organizer Eliana Turina, and many more who made the event such a success: Jennie Alvarez, Jennifer Beggs, Dottie Bennett, Jackie Browne, Susan Crawford, Wendy Diliberti, Lisa Dubois, Adrian Farley, Suzanne Gragg, Joyce Grand, Linda Haake, Ellen Haberlein, Sue Jewett, Debra Lee, Wanda Martinson, Julianne Mueller, Adele Neuberg, Anne O’Neil, Jan Rasgus, Millie Schreiber, Susan Scott, IIona Szemzo, Ann Taylor, Kathy Utgoff, Linda Winger and Louise Ziebell.
And a big THANKS to the Lake Barcroft Marching Band, the Kazoo Band, the Bailey’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, and our local Mason District police for their participation. The Lake Barcroft July 4th Marching Band musicians were Annik Fus on the flute; Mikhail Mints on the clarinet; Dan Hotopp, Kenton Drury, Douglas Meyer, Jeff Meyer, Kevin Scott, Gavin Scott, and Cory Scott on their trumpets; Jerry Meyer on the trombone; Ian Meyer on the base drum; and Wesley Meyer on the snare drum.
